Located alongside the River Avon, Stratford-upon-Avon is centrally located within England and provides a good option for spending a couple of days exploring this historic town. The town is linked closely to its most well-known citizen, William Shakespeare, and there are a number of houses in and around the town which are connected to Shakespeare. It is a popular tourist destination, drawing many thousands each year.
Getting There
Stratford-upon-Avon is easily accessible by road or rail. The town itself is close to the M40 motorway for access by car, and there is a train station which serves the town, located to the west of the town centre.

Shakespeare's Birthplace
Born 1564, William Shakespeare has had a huge cultural impact within the UK and further afield. Shakespeare lived here during his early years. The house has been restored to its 16th-century look, and a visit can include the surrounding gardens.
Anne Hathaway's Cottage
Located out a little way in the countryside, Anne Hathaway's cottage is worth a trip. This is Hathaway's home as a girl, until she married Shakespeare in 1582, and is restored now, with accessible gardens.
Holy Trinity Church
Home to William Shakespeare's grave, the church here is somewhat an attraction due to this, but nevertheless, it functions as a church first and foremost. It is a calm location, away from the busy aspects of the town.
River Avon
The river itself is used throughout the year. You can hire a range of boats, such as rowing boats or small motor boats, to explore the river at your leisure. Canal boats are a frequent sight as you progress through it. There are also cruise boats available if you would rather someone else took control and responsibility. You can walk beside the river, through a weaving path which takes you through many weeping willows.
Butterfly Farm
The UK's largest butterfly farm, and great as a family attraction.

This museum offers an insight into Tudor life, set within one of Stratford-upon-Avon's most historic buildings. It recreates different areas of Tudor life, to build a story of what life was like at this time.
