The terrain on Chobham Common in Surrey is varied and can be challenging in places. Expect sandy paths (which can be loose and tiring underfoot), heathland tracks that can be uneven, boggy, and very wet in places (especially in winter or after rain), and some gravelled bridleways. There are gentle undulations and some slightly hillier sections across the common. The area is quite exposed to the weather. - Dog Notes:
Chobham Common in Surrey is popular for dog walking, offering vast open spaces for exercise. However, due to the extremely sensitive wildlife (including ground-nesting birds like nightjars and woodlarks, adders, rare insects, and sometimes grazing livestock for conservation), dogs MUST be kept under very close control, and it is strongly recommended (and often a requirement by bylaws) to keep them on leads and on marked paths, especially between 1st March and 15th September (the main bird breeding and reptile activity season). This is crucial to protect the fragile ecosystem. Be very aware of adders in warmer months and keep dogs out of dense heather where they might disturb or be bitten by them. Please clean up after your dog meticulously. This Surrey reserve requires very responsible dog ownership.
