The Walk

Take in some great views from the old Cromford & High Peak Railway.

Map with thanks to Ordnance Survey.

Walk

1 From the car park (there are a choice of two), go through the gates at the start of the path where the road bends to the right, a little way onward from where you parked, and bear left onto the old railway line. As you continue on the path, it will bend to the left then loop back round to the right.

2 Once you have continued on the track for a while, passing by some benches, you will reach the point in the image at the header of this walk, seeing the track ending against the Burbage Tunnel, which has been filled in. To follow the route, turn right off the track, just before reaching the tunnel. The sign points toward Wildmoorstone Brook, so follow this.

3 You will leave the main track at this point. You can make this walk linear and return the way you came, or continue onward but the path is a little rougher and steeper in parts. Continue on the grass path ahead, crossing over a ruined stone wall. You will reach and cross a wooden bridge then continue on the path.

4 Follow on the path through the Wildmoorstone Valley. You will reach a signpost, where you should follow the right path to Goyts Lane. As the track rises, follow it and where it meets another track, bear right. You will then reach a junction with a larger track, near the beginning of the old railway. Turn right and you will find yourself back at the car park and road.
