A circular dog friendly walk around Haigh Woodland Park, which is close to Wigan. Haigh Woodland Park is one of the north west's most treasured natural attractions. It has impressive grounds and woodlands which you and your dog can enjoy, along with a stretch of the walk being alongside the Leeds and Liverpool Canal.

How to get there: Haigh Woodland Park is within easy reach of both the M6 (J27) and the M61 (J6). If approaching from the M6, take the A49 towards Standish, then the B5239 to Haigh. Look out for the B5239 and Aspull, then Haigh, when leaving the M61. Alternatively, Haigh Woodland Park can easily be found close to the two main A roads, the A6 and the A49.

The Walk

Walk
1 From the car park, follow the path leading down past the buildings and then to the left. Follow on the path through the woodland.
2 The path heads to the right, follow this until it crosses with the bridge at point 3.
3 Turn right and follow the path up alongside the Leeds and Liverpool Canal.
4 Where the path meets Sennicar Lane, turn right onto it. Follow the track until it reaches School Lane, where you should turn right to head back to the car park.
