The Walk

An easy walk along the top of the downs.

Map with thanks to Ordnance Survey.

Walk

1 From the fort, follow the grassy path running alongside the road on its left as far as you can. At the boundary of the field, cut through the hedge and back onto the road. Cross over it and go through the opposite hedge and turn left. Follow on the grassy path, running parallel to the road on the right. The path will rejoin the road at a cattle grid. Head through the gate to the side of the cattle grid and follow the road to the car park marking the site of the old signal station.

2 Continue on the road to the start of the one-way system and follow it left, down to the car park which offers views to Whitecliff Bay and Brading Haven. Carry on to Culver Battery.

3 Contine along the road, then retrace your steps along the road.

4 Pass through the gate to the side of the cattle grid, then leave the road on the left to follow the grassy ridge-top path you came along, keeping the hedge and the road to your right. Do not cross over the road this time, instead heading back be continuing directly ahead and back to the car park.
