Circular walk

A circular dog walk starting from a small off-road parking area on the A4080. The walk consists of a circuit of Llyn Maelog, which allows for the opportunity to see a number of birds and other wildlife. Walking around the water provides some great views before you reach the public beach. Walk

1 From the off-road parking area on the A4080, you will begin the walk by crossing over the main A4080 road, heading toward Llyn Maelog. There is a sign posted walk pointing toward the wooden boardwalk. Head along this in a northerly direction. Continue along until you reach the end of the boardwalk, which is to the side of the lake. If you continue onward to the path, heading to the house in front of you. Climb up the steps to reach the field.

2 Now, you will head toward the caravan park. Continue onward, keeping the lake to your right and once past the caravan park, head in the direction away from it, still keeping the lake to your right.

3 Follow the path down the eastern-most side of the lake. You will continue on through four gates, as you continue down the path. You will now reach a lane, which if you continue down, you will emerge at a junction onto the A4080.

4 At this point, turn right, onto the A4080 itself. Cross over the bridge, remaining on the footpath and then cross the road so you are beside a public footpath side and red postbox. Now, head up the tarmac lane which has a number of car passing places and speed bumps. Head onward, passing the public footpath sign to your left. Continue on to the caravan park, remaining on the lane.

5 Prior to reaching the houses which look out onto the beach, turn right and head through the sand dunes and onto the beach itself – Traeth Llydan. Walk along this public beach toward Rhosneigr. You will then reach the river which runs from the earlier lake – Llyn Maelog, running to the sea. If you turn right and head along the river bank, crossing a footbridge toward the picnic area. Finally, follow the path towards the houses and turn right at the wall, which will bring you back to the start of this walk.
