Dog Considerations:
- Leads: To protect the sensitive ground-nesting birds (lapwing, redshank, avocet), overwintering birds, and other wildlife for which Ouse Fen is a vital habitat, dogs **MUST BE KEPT ON A SHORT LEAD (max 2m) AND ON MARKED PATHS AT ALL TIMES** throughout the entire RSPB reserve. This is strictly enforced for conservation reasons.
- Water: The reserve features many lakes, reedbeds, and ditches, but this water is primarily for wildlife. Do not allow dogs to enter the water or reedbeds. Carry plenty of fresh water for your dog, as the open landscape offers little shade.
- Wildlife: Ouse Fen is a premier birdwatching site (bitterns, marsh harriers, bearded tits, numerous ducks, geese, waders). It is imperative that dogs do not disturb any wildlife.
- Dog Bins: Limited, usually only at main car park areas. You MUST be prepared to take all dog waste home with you from the wider reserve.
- Hazards: Deep water in lakes/quarries (keep dogs well away from edges). Can be very exposed to weather. Mosquitoes/biting insects can be present in summer near wetlands.
