Terrain: Varied and beautiful Peak District scenery. Paths alongside Errwood Reservoir are generally well-maintained tracks (compacted stone/gravel), some undulating. Paths leading up to Errwood Hall ruins, into surrounding woodlands (often coniferous plantations and some ancient woodland remnants), and onto moorland fringes are earthier, can be steep, rocky, rooty, and very muddy/boggy. The valley has a remote feel.

Dog Considerations:
- Leads: The Goyt Valley is popular but also a sensitive SSSI area with grazing livestock (sheep) on moorland fringes and important wildlife. On main reservoir paths, especially when busy or near picnic areas, leads are advisable. In wider woodlands *away* from main paths and livestock, well-behaved dogs with excellent recall *might* have some off-lead time, but always be prepared to re-lead. **On any open moorland or fields with sheep, dogs MUST be on leads.**
- Water: Errwood Reservoir (drinking water supply – dog swimming discouraged). River Goyt and feeder streams offer paddling (peaty water). Carry fresh water.
- Wildlife & Livestock: Sheep on hillsides. Woodland birds, potentially deer. Waterfowl on reservoir. Strict control of dogs needed.
- Dog Bins: May be at main car parks like Errwood Hall or Derbyshire Bridge. Unlikely on paths themselves. Take waste home.
- Hazards: Sheep. Deep water in reservoir. Steep, slippery paths. Ruins of Errwood Hall (care needed). Ticks. Weather changes quickly. Limited mobile signal. Road closures (see below).
