A circular dog friendly walk around Clifton Country Park. Clifton Country Park is a local nature reserve in the Irwell Valley at Clifton, Greater Manchester. It is situated next to a double bend in the River Irwell. The park has 119 acres of wooded area, fields and lakes. The park also features two sculptures from the Irwell Sculpture Trail, which includes 28 art pieces over a 30-mile footpath.

 

How to get there

From Swinton, travel along Manchester Road (A666 towards Kearsley) until the country park is signposted. Turn right down Clifton House Road, then turn right down Dow Brow and under the railway bridge. From Kearsley, follow Manchester Road (A666) until the country park is signposted. Turn left into Clifton House Road, then turn right down Dow Brow and under the railway bridge.

 

Walk

1 From the car park, head up on the path toward the lake. Before reaching the lake, turn left and follow the path all the way around the lake, keeping it to your right at all times. When on the north side of the lake, you will be walking alongside the River Irwell.

2 Take a right and follow the path round and back up through the woodland.

3 Take a right and follow the path as it leads up to join back up with the start point, where you can head back to the car park.
