There is a large, free lay-by style car park located directly at Cheesefoot Head, on the A272 between Winchester and Petersfield in Hampshire. This provides excellent and direct access to the footpaths leading into the bowl and across the downs. It can get busy, especially on sunny weekends, but there is generally ample space at this popular Hampshire viewpoint.

The terrain at Cheesefoot Head in Hampshire is open chalk downland. Paths are grassy tracks which can be uneven, rutted, and very slippery when wet or frosty due to the chalk. There are some steep slopes into and out of the bowl and on the surrounding downs. The area is very exposed to the weather. Sturdy footwear with good grip is essential for this Hampshire walk.
