This suggested walk offers a flexible loop of approximately 1 mile, guiding you through the open spaces of Salford Park and around the tranquil Aston Reservoir.

  1. Starting from the Car Park: Begin your walk from the car park on Salford Park Road. Head out onto the main paths that lead into Salford Park.

  2. Salford Park Exploration: Start by exploring the open green spaces of Salford Park. These vast, mown lawns are perfect for well-behaved dogs with excellent recall to enjoy some off-lead running, playing fetch, or simply stretching their legs. Be mindful of others using the space for picnics or games.

  3. To Aston Reservoir (On Lead): From Salford Park, the route seamlessly connects to Aston Reservoir. Follow the paths that lead you around the reservoir's perimeter. The views across the calm water are a lovely change of pace. Keep your dog on a lead when around the reservoir to protect sensitive waterfowl, prevent disturbance to anglers (if present), and for water safety. Do not allow your dog to enter the water.

  4. Wildlife Awareness: The reservoir and park are home to a variety of birds, especially waterfowl. Be mindful of any sensitive areas or nesting sites. Keep your dog under control and from disturbing any wildlife.

  5. Connecting back to the Park: The paths form a natural loop that will guide you back from the reservoir area into the main part of Salford Park.

  6. Amenities and Return: As you complete your walk, you'll pass by various park amenities, including play areas (dogs typically not allowed inside fenced sections) and sports pitches. Follow the paths back to the car park.

Important Considerations for Your Walk

  • DOGS ON LEAD AT RESERVOIR: Dogs MUST be kept on a lead on paths immediately adjacent to Aston Reservoir. This is crucial for wildlife protection and water safety.

  • WATER SAFETY: The reservoir contains deep water. Keep your dog away from the water's edge and do not allow them to swim.

  • WATER FOR DOGS: Bring plenty of fresh water for your dog, as public water facilities are limited.
