This route offers a mix of classic coastal and countryside terrain. The South West Coast Path sections are rocky, uneven, and feature a few steep, lung-busting climbs—particularly the ascent to Dodman Point. The inland return uses grassy footpaths, farm tracks, and quiet tarmac lanes. In the wetter months, the field paths around Penare can become heavily bogged and slippery. Sturdy, waterproof walking boots with good ankle support are absolutely essential year-round.
