This walk features a truly mixed bag of Cornish ground conditions. The coastal stretches are undulating, often crisscrossed by slippery tree roots and uneven rocks, while the inland climb up to Mawnan Smith will get the heart rate up. After a bout of classic British rain, the woodland tracks and field crossings become famously muddy and boggy. Sturdy, waterproof hiking boots or trail shoes with excellent grip are highly recommended for this route all year round.
