There are several main car parks providing access to Tentsmuir National Nature Reserve in Fife, managed by Forestry and Land Scotland. The primary ones are usually at Kinshaldy (which often has a visitor centre/shelter, cafe/kiosk (seasonal), toilets, and children's play area – parking charges typically apply here) and Tentsmuir Point (which is more remote, may be free or have an honesty box system, and offers access to the seal viewing areas). These provide good starting points for different walks within Tentsmuir. The Kinshaldy car park can get very busy for this popular Fife destination, especially on sunny weekends and holidays. Arrive early or consider visiting mid-week.

The terrain in Tentsmuir, Fife, is varied. Expect sandy forest tracks (which can be loose and deep in places), uneven and soft dune paths, and firm sandy beach near the water's edge (becoming softer and more tiring higher up). Some main paths, especially near car parks like Kinshaldy, are well-surfaced and accessible for pushchairs and some mobility scooters. The area is largely flat but very exposed to coastal weather, particularly wind. Waterproof footwear can be useful for dune slacks or wetter forest paths after rain. This Fife coast can be demanding in poor weather conditions.

An extensive network of well-marked paths and less formal tracks crisscrosses Tentsmuir, leading through the towering pine forests (Tentsmuir Forest), over the impressive and ever-changing dune system (Tentsmuir Sands – a Site of Special Scientific Interest), and along the expansive beach that stretches for miles. Walkers can discover wartime coastal defences (concrete blocks and pillboxes), look for seals hauled out on the sandbanks (especially at Tentsmuir Point, towards the Tay estuary), and enjoy excellent birdwatching opportunities throughout the year. The area is exceptionally popular with walkers, cyclists, families, horse riders, and wildlife enthusiasts in Fife, offering a truly immersive natural experience.
