Walk Highlights

Location:
Glasgow
Postcode:
PA12 4LB
Parking:

Parking: There is a large, free car park at the Muirshiel Country Park Visitor Centre. It can get busy, especially on weekends and sunny days, so arriving earlier in the day is recommended.

Distance:
3.20 miles
Time:
1.50 hours
Difficulty:
Challenging
Terrain:

Terrain: A wonderfully varied walk, transitioning from well-maintained gravel tracks and forest paths within the park's lower sections to natural earth paths, peaty bog, and rocky sections across the open moorland. The ascent to Windy Hill is continuous and can be steep and uneven. Expect paths to be wet, very muddy, and boggy, particularly after rain or during wetter seasons. Sturdy, comfortable, waterproof hiking boots with excellent ankle support and good grip are absolutely essential for both you and your dog. Be prepared for exposed conditions on the upper slopes.

Accessibility: Due to the steep, often boggy, and uneven terrain, especially on the ascent to Windy Hill, this walk is not suitable for those with significant mobility issues or pushchairs beyond the immediate visitor centre area. It requires a good level of fitness, sure-footedness, and appropriate gear.
