Dog Considerations:
- Leads: The Hayling Billy Trail is excellent for dog walking. It offers long, traffic-free stretches where dogs can often enjoy off-lead freedom, provided they are well-behaved and responsive to recall, especially as the path is popular with cyclists and other walkers. Be mindful of the ecologically sensitive harbour edges.
- Water: The path runs alongside Langstone Harbour. At low tide, muddy flats are exposed; at high tide, water comes up to the sea defences. Assess suitability before letting dogs drink from or enter the harbour water. Carry fresh water, especially on sunny days.
- Wildlife: Langstone Harbour is a haven for birdlife, including wading birds and wildfowl. Ensure dogs do not disturb nesting or feeding birds.
- Dog Bins: Usually provided at main access points and car parks, and sometimes along the route.
- Hazards: Cyclists (can approach quickly and quietly). The harbour edge can be very muddy and have sharp shells. Can be exposed to coastal winds.
