The terrain at Holkham Beach in North Norfolk is primarily sandy beach, which is generally firm and easy to walk on near the water's edge at low tide but can be soft and more tiring higher up towards the dunes. Paths through the pine woods are often sandy or earth and can be uneven with tree roots. Boardwalks may be present in some dune areas to protect the habitat. Holkham Beach in North Norfolk is exceptionally dog-friendly, with vast expanses of sand for dogs to run and play year-round. Dogs can usually be off-lead on most of the beach and in the pine woods. However, there may be some specific signposted areas (particularly within the National Nature Reserve sections or during bird breeding season, April-August, for species like Little Terns and Ringed Plovers) where dogs are requested to be on leads or are not permitted – always check local Holkham Estate/Natural England signage. The Walk
