Terrain: Delamere Forest is Cheshire's largest woodland. It offers a vast network of paths with varied terrain. Main forest roads are wide, well-surfaced (compacted stone/gravel), and relatively flat or gently undulating, suitable for many abilities, pushchairs, and wheelchairs (especially around the visitor centre and some lake paths). Smaller footpaths and cycle trails are earthier, sandier in places, can be very uneven with tree roots, and become muddy after rain. The ascent to Old Pale viewpoint is a sustained, moderate climb on a good path.

Dog Considerations:
- Leads: Delamere Forest is exceptionally dog-friendly and one of the most popular dog walking destinations in the North West. Off-lead exercise is common and generally accepted throughout most of the forest, provided dogs are kept under good control, responsive to recall, and do not cause a nuisance to other visitors (including families, cyclists on designated trails, and horse riders on bridleways) or disturb wildlife. Dogs should be on leads around the busy Visitor Centre, cafes, play areas, and any specific conservation areas or where signage indicates.
- Water: Blakemere Moss (a large lake/mere) and several smaller ponds and streams exist within the forest. Dogs often enjoy a paddle or swim in Blakemere Moss from designated dog-friendly access points, but be mindful of water quality (check for algae notices in summer) and wildlife. Carry fresh water, especially for longer walks. Water bowls often at the visitor centre.
- Wildlife: The forest supports deer, badgers, foxes, squirrels, and a rich variety of woodland and heathland birds (including nightjars and woodlarks in some areas). Ensure dogs do not chase or harass wildlife.
- Dog Bins: Plentifully available around the main visitor hub, car parks, picnic areas, and along many of the popular waymarked trails.
- Hazards: Cyclists on shared paths or dedicated cycle trails (can approach quickly). Horse riders on bridleways. Some paths can be very muddy and slippery. Ticks are common in woodlands and heathland areas. Blakemere Moss can have deep water/soft mud at edges. Can be extremely busy.
