Approximate Distance: 2.5 - 5 miles (4 - 8 km), with a network of paths and tracks allowing for various loop lengths.
Estimated Time: 1.5 - 3 hours, depending on the chosen route and pace.
Walk Description:
1. From a Main Car Park/Access Point: Begin your walk from one of the designated Forestry England parking areas or recognised access points. Information boards with maps of the wood and any waymarked trails may be present.
2. Exploring Forest Tracks and Paths: Hazelborough Wood has a good network of tracks (often former rides or forestry access roads) and smaller footpaths. You can follow waymarked routes if available or create your own loop using an OS map.
3. Ancient Woodland Features: This is an ancient woodland site, once part of the larger Royal Forest of Whittlewood. As you walk, appreciate the mature trees (especially oak and ash), areas of hazel coppice, and the rich ground flora, which can include beautiful displays of bluebells and wood anemones in the spring.
4. Varied Woodland Structure: The wood comprises different compartments with varying tree species and ages, offering a changing atmosphere as you explore. Some areas are denser, while others have more open glades or clearings from forestry operations.

Tips for Your Walk:
- Forestry England Website: Check the Forestry England website for Hazelborough Wood for the latest information on facilities, trail conditions, any forestry operations, or events.
- Footwear is CRITICAL: Sturdy, waterproof walking boots with good grip are essential, especially outside of dry summer periods. The clay soil can make paths extremely muddy and slippery.
- OS Map: OS Explorer map 207 (Newport Pagnell & Northampton South) is highly recommended for navigating the wood effectively.
- Seasonal Interest: Each season offers a different experience, from the fresh greens and flowers of spring to the rich colours of autumn and the stark beauty of winter.
- Leave No Trace: Help protect this valuable SSSI by taking all litter home, including dog waste, and by keeping to paths to avoid damaging flora.
Hazelborough Wood is a wonderful destination for those seeking a substantial woodland walk in a historically rich and ecologically important area.
