Terrain & Tide Warnings
Crucial Note on Tides: The path along the edge of the River Gannel is entirely submerged for a couple of hours on either side of high tide. You must check the tide times before setting off. If the tide is in, you cannot walk the river edge and will be forced up onto the higher (often overgrown) banks or inland lanes. The inland return section utilizes grassy footpaths which can become very boggy after wet weather. Sturdy, waterproof boots are essential.

The Estuary: The long walk up the Gannel is fantastic for dogs to splash about in the shallows. However, be prepared for some seriously sticky, smelly estuary mud, especially at low tide!
-
Livestock & Roads: The return leg of this walk crosses miles of active farmland and utilizes several country lanes. It is highly recommended to keep your dog on a lead for the inland half of this loop to watch out for local traffic and grazing animals.
