The route transitions from paved, quiet country lanes to muddy agricultural field paths, before hitting the rocky, uneven granite tracks leading up Carn Marth. The ascent is steady but will get the heart pumping. Given the likelihood of sticky mud in the lower fields (especially during the wetter months) and the rocky ground on the hill, sturdy, waterproof walking boots are essential.
