Terrain: A wonderfully varied and generally flat to gently undulating walk. You'll experience a mix of wide, well-maintained compacted gravel or tarmac paths (along the Ayot Greenway), natural earth paths through woodlands and meadows, and sections along quiet country lanes. Paths through fields and along riverbanks can become muddy and prone to puddles, especially after rain or in wetter seasons. Sturdy, comfortable walking shoes are recommended, and waterproof footwear is advisable for optimal comfort.
Accessibility: The Ayot Greenway section is generally highly accessible. However, other parts of this circular route, particularly those venturing into the Lea Valley or crossing fields, may be uneven, muddy, and could involve stiles or gates, making them less suitable for those with significant mobility issues or standard pushchairs for the full loop.- Get Directions:

Dog-Friendliness: This walk offers a fantastic and very dog-friendly experience, blending historic railway lines, charming countryside, and scenic river valleys! Dogs are welcome throughout much of the route. However, it is crucial to be highly mindful of shared paths with cyclists, potential livestock in adjacent fields, and sensitive wildlife in wetland areas. Always ensure your dog is under control.
The Ayot Greenway in Hertfordshire is very suitable and popular for dog walking. The wide, flat paths are comfortable for dogs. It is generally advisable to keep dogs on a lead or under close control, especially as it's a shared-use path popular with cyclists (who can approach quickly) and can be busy at times with families and other walkers. Please clean up after your dog; bins are often provided at main access points or in nearby Hertfordshire villages/towns. This Hertfordshire greenway is a great dog-walking venue.- EV Charger Nearby:
