Penycloddiau and the Clwydian Range in Denbighshire are excellent for walking with energetic dogs that are accustomed to upland terrain. Dogs can often be off-lead on the open hills, but ensure they have excellent recall and are kept under very close control due to the frequent presence of grazing livestock (mainly sheep), other walkers, and potentially steep drops from paths or ramparts. Be mindful of ground-nesting birds during spring and summer (keep dogs to paths). Remember to bring plenty of water for your dog, as natural sources are scarce on the hills of this Denbighshire AONB.
