Monk's Dale
Circular walk
The route follows the Monk's Dale dry gorge near Buxton. The valley is dry over the summer but there is a winterbourne stream which runs into the River Wye. For some larger dog breeds this can be linear walk; the wall gaps towards the halfway mark get quite narrow. You can also readily join the Monsal Trail from the carpark of this walk. Downloadable map available here.

Walk
1 From the car park walk back onto the road and turn left to follow the road up the hill.
2 When you reach the sharp left bend, take the footpath to the right (next to the farm house) walking between the fence and the stone wall. Once you are past the farm house the path splits, follow left heading down into the valley. The path splits again, turn left to follow the valley towards the north west. Keep following this path taking care with the large the large exposed rocks. You will pass through a number of sqeeze-gaps in stone walls as you go, when you reach the top of the valley the last one is particularly narrow. If your dog isn't keen then simply turn around and retrace your steps to make this a linear walk.
3 When you reach the quiet road, turn right ascending with the road.
4 Just before reaching a house on the left, head right onto the bridle path signed Limestone Way. Follow this south. You will eventually reach a T juction, take the path to the right. Keep following the path past a holiday cottage and some farm buildings.
5 You will encounter a path to your right that descends back into the valley. Follow this which will take you to back to the original path at the start of the walk. Now simply retrace your steps back to the road and car park.
