Parking for the Porthgain walks can be found in the town itself. Porthgain has a dedicated pay and display car park located near the harbour. For a linear walk, consider using the Puffin Shuttle coastal bus service (check seasonal operation and timetables) or arrange transport with two cars. Both village car parks can get busy, especially in Porthgain during peak season for this popular Pembrokeshire walk.

The terrain for the Pembrokeshire Coastal Path from Trefin to Porthgain is challenging and undulating. Expect steep, rocky, and uneven clifftop paths with numerous ascents and descents. Paths can be narrow in places and muddy after rain. Strong, sturdy walking boots with excellent ankle support and good grip are essential for this Pembrokeshire coastal section. This route requires a good level of fitness and sure-footedness.

The path from Porthgain winds its way along exposed clifftops, past secluded coves like Aberfelin (with its old mill ruins), and through areas of coastal heathland vibrant with wildflowers in season. Porthgain itself is a charming former industrial port, instantly recognisable by its distinctive brick hoppers – remnants of its granite and slate quarrying past. Today, Porthgain is home to popular pubs (like The Sloop Inn) and art galleries. Trefin is a smaller coastal village with its own character and history. This Pembrokeshire route is moderately challenging due to the undulating terrain.
