- Parking:
Parking for the Thorney Island Shoreline Walk is typically found at the public pay and display car park in Emsworth, often near the Emsworth Slipper Mill Pond or the main town quay/harbour area. From Emsworth, it's a pleasant walk along the shoreline path (approx. 1-1.5 miles) to reach the causeway and the main security gate (Pilsey Gate) that provides public access to the Thorney Island permissive path. There is no public car parking on Thorney Island itself. The Emsworth car parks can get very busy, so arrive early for this West Sussex walk.
- Distance:
- 8.10 miles
- Time:
- 3.00 hours
- Difficulty:
- Easy
- Terrain:
Terrain: A unique and largely flat coastal walk that encircles Thorney Island. The path is predominantly a mix of compacted earth, gravel, and shingle, often running along the top of a sea wall. Expect sections to be very muddy and potentially boggy, especially after rain or during wetter seasons. Some parts may involve walking across sandy sections or low-lying areas. Sturdy, comfortable, and waterproof hiking boots or wellies are absolutely essential for both you and your dog.
Accessibility: While generally flat, the path's varied and often very muddy/uneven surface, along with specific access gates (see 'Important Notes'), make it not suitable for those with significant mobility issues or pushchairs for the full circular route.- Get Directions:
