Windermere lake is 10.5 miles long, one mile wide and 220 feet deep, making it the largest natural lake in England. It is surrounded by mountain peaks and villages, including Bowness-on-Windermere.
How to get there
Take the B5285 from Hawkshead to Far Sawrey. Continue on through Far Sawrey and follow the signs to Windermere.
Walk
1. Leave the car park and when facing the lake, turn left. Head on this path through the kissing gates. Pass through the woodland and continue on this path for some time.
2. The walk itself is up to 3.5 miles, so you can continue on to National Trust Wray Castle. Obviously, you can cut the walk short at any point, to return on the original path.
