Terrain: Around Nelson Pit, the Macclesfield Canal towpath is flat, generally well-maintained (compacted earth/gravel), and accessible. The Middlewood Way (former railway line) is also flat, wide, and well-surfaced (compacted stone/gravel), excellent for pushchairs and wheelchairs. Paths connecting the two or around the old pit workings may be earthier and slightly undulating.
