Chapel Common offers a mix of open heathland and quieter woodland paths within the South Downs, giving dogs plenty of variety as you explore. Public footpaths cross the common, and the landscape includes heath, grassland, scrub and wooded sections, so the walk can feel more open in places and more sheltered in others.
This is a good option if you enjoy a simple countryside wander rather than a waymarked route with lots of facilities. Please follow local signs and keep dogs close where needed. No livestock is currently noted for this route, but please check local signs and keep dogs under close control around fields or open land.
There are no toilets, café, pub, poo bins or dog water points currently noted here, so it is worth arriving prepared. Stile information is unclear, so it is best to expect natural paths and check access as you go. If you know the area, you may also spot the line of an ancient Roman road crossing the common, which adds a little extra interest to the walk.
