Reigate Hill

Circular walk

A circular walk across Reigate Hill. Reigate Hill has a good level of history. The 19th Century Reigate Fort sits at the top of the Hill, commanding a defensive position looking out toward the South Downs. Downloadable map available here.

The Walk

A circular walk across Reigate Hill.

Walk

1 From Wray Lane car park, walk across the footbridge, following the North Downs Way. Continue on the path and on your left you will pass the entrance to Reigate Fort. Follow on the path and pass open areas of grassland.

2 When you pass through the gate, you will see the Inglis Memorial to your left. From here, you can experience fantastic views towards Box Hill (walk link here) and Leith Hill in the West, and the South Downs to the South. Continue to follow the North Downs Way along the top of the hill.

3 Go through the wooden gate, to remain on the North Downs Way, until you reach a T-junction. Turn left onto the track and continue to follow the North Downs Way.

4 You will reach a crossroads, where you should turn left. Ignore paths which go off to your right and left. Follow the way marker showing the North Downs Ridge Circular Walk, going down the steps.

5 Take the path down the hill to your right, and at the next path junction, take the left fork to follow the yellow arrow. You will join onto Underhill Park Road briefly, initially turning left onto it.

6 As the road bends to the right, turn left onto the unsurfaced track. Then almost immediately, take a sharp left to follow the blue arrow for the Millennium trail, heading up the hill. Progress on, passing through a gate and turn right up the steps. When you reach the top, you will be back at the Inglis Memorial. Turn right here, to follow the North Downs Way back to the car park.
