Terrain: A truly unique and varied landscape of open heathland, dense pine forest, and sandy tracks. Expect significant undulations with some steep, sandy climbs and descents. The ground is often soft and sandy underfoot, which can be more strenuous. Paths are generally informal earth or sand tracks. Can be very muddy and boggy in lower-lying areas or after heavy rain. Sturdy, comfortable walking boots with good ankle support are highly recommended.
Accessibility: Due to the soft, sandy, and undulating terrain, uneven paths, and potential for mud, Hankley Common is generally not suitable for those with significant mobility issues or pushchairs. It requires a good level of fitness.

Dog-Friendliness: Hankley Common is an absolutely immense and fantastic destination for energetic dogs, offering vast open spaces and incredible sniffing opportunities! Dogs are welcome throughout much of the common, providing seemingly endless opportunities for off-lead running and exploration. However, it is crucial to be highly mindful of its primary use as a military training area, the presence of sensitive wildlife (especially ground-nesting birds and adders), and other common users. Always ensure your dog is under control and has excellent recall.
