The terrain on Thursley Common in Surrey is varied and can be challenging in places. Expect sandy paths (which can be loose and tiring underfoot), heathland tracks that can be uneven, boggy, and very wet in places (especially in winter or after rain), and extensive wooden boardwalks over wetter mire areas which are generally very accessible. There are some gentle undulations across the common. The area is quite exposed to the weather. Strong, waterproof footwear is highly advisable year-round for exploring this Surrey heathland.

- Dog Notes:
Dogs are welcome on Thursley Common in Surrey, but due to the extremely sensitive wildlife (including ground-nesting birds like nightjars and woodlarks, adders, rare insects, and grazing livestock used for conservation) they MUST be kept on a short lead and strictly on marked paths at all times, especially between 1st March and 15th September (the main bird breeding and reptile activity season). This is crucial to protect the fragile ecosystem and is a legal requirement on this NNR. Please clean up after your dog thoroughly. Be very aware of adders in warmer months and keep dogs out of dense heather where they might disturb or be bitten by them. This Surrey reserve requires very responsible dog ownership.
